“Unsung Heroes”

It is not that ‘heroism’ wasn’t celebrated earlier in our movies but in the last few months the difference between a real hero and reel hero has diminished considerably. The year 2018 has itself given us movies like Padman, Raid, Raazi and the recently released Parmanu which celebrate the spirit of those who don’t have to wear uniforms to make their country proud. Even movies like Dangal, Manjhi: The Mountain Man, Airlift and No One Killed Jessica in the last few years have brought to life the stories of these ‘Unsung Heroes’ who have contributed to nation building. In fact, V.Shantaram’s Dr. Kotni ki Amar Kahani (based on the life of Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis) was probably the first movie that celebrated the spirit of a real life hero than a fictional one. This new trend in storytelling will greatly influence our film-makers to scout for unique stories of these ‘Unsung Heroes’ that will keep inspiring generations altogether.
